Dec 16, 2020 · The PDC is the independent, multi-specialty physician practice of Duke Health and is focused on providing the highest quality services to its 1,850 physician members and their patients. Founded in 1931, the PDC is one of the first and largest faculty practices in the United States. The university traces its roots to the 1640s, when colonial clergymen led an effort to establish a local college in the tradition of European liberal education. In 1701 the Connecticut legislature adopted a charter “to erect a Collegiate School.” As part of Duke University, Duke-Margolis honors the tradition of academic independence on the part of its faculty and scholars. Neither Duke nor the Margolis Center take partisan positions, but the individual members are free to speak their minds and express their opinions regarding important issues. Another tradition is the Victory Bell, which is given to the winner of the Duke-Carolina football game. The winner keeps the bell for the year and paints it their shade of blue. Thankfully, the Victory Bell is a nice, deep blue for the coming year, and not some ugly lighter shade.
